Our commitment
We want every part of this store — reading a spec, filtering the range, taking the Move Test, checking out — to work with a keyboard, with a screen reader, at high zoom, and with motion turned off. Where we have fallen short, we would rather hear about it and fix it than leave a statement here that overclaims.
Conformance target
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We believe the site substantially conforms. “Substantially” is doing real work in that sentence: the limitations we know about are listed below rather than left out.
We also design to the intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act as it applies to commercial websites.
What we have built in
- Keyboard. Every control is reachable and operable with a keyboard, in a logical order. The expanding search opens on Enter, moves focus into the field, closes on Escape and returns focus to the button that opened it. Nothing traps focus.
- Visible focus. A two-tone focus ring that stays visible on the dark page and on our accent-coloured buttons alike. We have not removed a focus outline anywhere.
- Skip link. First tab stop on every page jumps straight to the main content.
- Structure. One h1 per page, headings in order, landmarks for header, navigation, main and footer, and lists marked up as lists.
- Images. Descriptive alternative text on anything carrying information, and empty alt on anything decorative so a screen reader does not read it out twice.
- Forms. Every field has a visible label tied to its input. Errors are announced, described in words rather than by colour, and linked to the field they belong to. Required fields are marked in text as well as with a symbol.
- Live regions. Adding to the cart, changing a filter, and updating a quantity all announce the result rather than changing silently.
- Tables. Size charts and spec tables use real table markup with header cells and captions, so they can be navigated cell by cell.
- Zoom and reflow. The layout reflows to a single column and stays usable at 400% zoom with no horizontal scrolling. Text is sized in relative units and respects your browser’s font size.
- Language. The page language is declared, so a screen reader pronounces it correctly.
Colour and contrast
The site is one accent colour on a near-black page, and the contrast was checked rather than assumed:
| Combination | Ratio | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Acid lime on asphalt — measured values, links | 17.0:1 | 4.5:1 body text — passes AA and AAA |
| Asphalt on acid lime — primary buttons | 17.0:1 | 7:1 primary action — passes AA and AAA |
| Chalk body text on asphalt | 17.9:1 | 4.5:1 body text — passes AA and AAA |
| Chalk body text on the raised surface | 16.9:1 | 4.5:1 body text — passes AA and AAA |
| Ash secondary text on the raised surface | 6.0:1 | 4.5:1 body text — passes AA |
| Muted labels on the raised surface | 5.0:1 | 4.5:1 body text — passes AA |
| Acid lime on the raised surface | 16.1:1 | 4.5:1 body text — passes AA and AAA |
These figures are calculated from the site’s actual colour values rather than typed in by hand, and the build fails if any pair drops below its target. Every foreground is checked against the raised panel background, which is the tighter of the two surfaces it can sit on.
Colour is never the only carrier of meaning. A squat-proof rating always prints the word — Pass, Partial, Not tested — next to any colour treatment. A selected filter is marked with aria-pressed as well as a colour change. A form error is a sentence, not a red border.
Motion
The announcement bar at the top of the page scrolls automatically, which WCAG 2.2.2 requires to be stoppable. There are three ways to stop it: hover over it, move keyboard focus into it, or use the pause button at its right-hand end.
If your system is set to reduce motion, the bar does not animate at all — it becomes a static, horizontally scrollable list, and the pause control is removed because there is nothing to pause. The counting numbers on the home page render at their final value, image transitions are removed, and smooth scrolling is disabled. The video on the home page never plays until you press play, has no sound, and is not preloaded.
Known limitations
- Product photography. Alternative text describes what the piece is and what the frame shows, but a photograph of fabric opacity carries information that words can only approximate. If a spec or a rating is unclear from the text alone, contact us and we will describe it to you directly.
- The Move Test picker. It works fully by keyboard and announces its results, but it is a three-stage interface and is slower to work through with a screen reader than the plain shop grid, which exposes the same filters as ordinary buttons.
- Size tables. On a narrow screen the wider tables scroll horizontally inside their own container. The page itself never scrolls sideways, but the table does.
These are on our list. We will update this section as they are dealt with.
How this was assessed
By a mix of automated checking and manual testing: keyboard-only navigation of every page and the full checkout, screen reader testing with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, contrast ratios calculated from the actual token values rather than sampled from a screenshot, and layout review at 200% and 400% zoom. This statement was prepared on 11 August 2026 and reflects the site as it stands on that date.
